Tik Tok posts are famous for being even better than the real thing. But not when it comes to the Tianmen or Heaven’s Gate Mountain near Zhangjiajie. No picture can prepare you for the play of light through the giant natural hollow in this massive mountain crag, the plunging waterfalls and crumbling rocks which frame it, and the staircase that clambers up to the base of the peak itself. The sheer scale of the lush and rugged landscapes that stretch all around overwhelms.
