Kenya Bespoke Holidays

Kenya is one of Africa’s great safari destinations, combining vast savannahs, exceptional wildlife, dramatic landscapes and the warm culture of East Africa. From the wildlife-rich plains of the Maasai Mara to the foothills of Mount Kenya and the white-sand beaches of the Indian Ocean, Kenya offers extraordinary variety within a single journey.

At Earth Trip, we create private, tailor-made Kenya holidays around the way you want to travel. Your itinerary can focus entirely on wildlife and photography, combine safari with the Kenyan coast, or take a slower route through private conservancies, mountains, communities and less-visited landscapes.

With your own private vehicle and experienced driver-guide, you can travel at your own pace, spend longer where the wildlife is best and avoid the restrictions of a fixed group itinerary.

Why Choose a Bespoke Kenya Holiday?

Kenya is a destination where the route and timing can make a significant difference to your experience. Rather than putting you into a standard safari package, we design your journey around your interests, preferred pace and the experiences you most want to have.

  • Private travel: Travel with your own vehicle and experienced driver-guide, giving you greater flexibility throughout your safari.
  • Wildlife expertise: We know how to combine Kenya’s major reserves with quieter conservancies and less-visited areas.
  • Tailor-made itineraries: Your route, accommodation, activities and length of stay are designed around you rather than selected from a fixed package.
  • Responsible travel: We favour carefully selected properties and experiences that support conservation and local communities.
  • Kenya specialists: Our team has first-hand knowledge of Kenya and can advise on the right combination of parks, conservancies, beaches and experiences.

Where Can You Go on a Kenya Safari?

Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara is Kenya’s most celebrated safari destination and one of Africa’s great wildlife regions. Its open grasslands support large populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and other plains game.

The Mara is also associated with the annual Great Migration, when huge numbers of wildebeest and other grazing animals move through the wider Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. The precise timing varies from year to year, so we plan safari dates carefully around your priorities rather than relying on a fixed calendar.

For a more private experience, we can incorporate community and private conservancies bordering the Maasai Mara, where visitor numbers are more controlled and activities can extend beyond conventional game drives.

Laikipia and Kenya’s Northern Frontier

Laikipia offers a different side of Kenya, with dramatic landscapes, private conservancies and innovative approaches to wildlife conservation.

The region is particularly well suited to travellers who want to combine traditional game drives with walking safaris, night drives, horseback experiences or community-based conservation projects where available.

It can also provide a quieter alternative to the country’s busiest safari areas.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli is famous for its spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its large herds of elephants. The park’s open landscapes make wildlife particularly easy to observe and photograph, while the mountain provides an unforgettable backdrop.

Amboseli works especially well as part of a wider Kenya safari combining southern Kenya with the Maasai Mara or the coast.

Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya provides an opportunity to experience a cooler, mountainous side of the country. The surrounding region is home to forests, highland landscapes, wildlife conservancies and some of Kenya’s most distinctive lodges.

For active travellers, the area can be incorporated into an itinerary with hiking and walking experiences alongside safari.

The Kenyan Coast

Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline is an ideal complement to a safari. After several days exploring the savannah, you can slow the pace on the beaches around Diani, Watamu or the Lamu Archipelago.

The coast offers more than simply time on the beach, with opportunities for sailing, snorkelling, diving, marine wildlife encounters and exploring the region’s distinctive Swahili culture.

A Kenya safari and beach holiday is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the country’s contrasting landscapes.

Wildlife on a Kenya Safari

Kenya is home to an extraordinary range of wildlife, including the famous Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros.

Depending on the regions included in your itinerary, you can also encounter cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas and large herds of antelope, together with hundreds of bird species.

Rather than trying to see everything in a single itinerary, we recommend choosing a carefully considered combination of areas. Spending several nights in each location generally creates a more rewarding experience than constantly moving between camps.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Kenya?

Kenya is a year-round safari destination, but different seasons offer different advantages.

The generally drier periods from January to March and July to October are popular for wildlife viewing, as vegetation is thinner and animals are often easier to spot around remaining water sources. The July to October period is also associated with the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, although the exact timing varies from year to year.

The wetter seasons can also be rewarding. Landscapes become greener, many parks are quieter and there can be excellent opportunities for photography and birdwatching.

Rather than simply recommending one “best” month, we consider your priorities, the areas you want to visit and the type of wildlife experience you are looking for.

Private Safari Vehicles and Expert Guides

A private safari gives you much greater flexibility than travelling as part of a group. You can decide how long to spend watching wildlife, when to take breaks and which activities are most important to you.

Your driver-guide plays an important role in the experience. Our Kenya itineraries use experienced local guides who understand the wildlife, landscapes and roads, and who can help make each game drive more than simply a search for animals.

For photographers and serious wildlife enthusiasts, we can also build itineraries around specific species, habitats or seasonal events.

Responsible Kenya Safaris

Responsible travel is particularly important in Kenya because tourism and conservation are closely connected. Many of the country’s wildlife areas depend on tourism revenue and partnerships with surrounding communities.

We carefully consider the properties and experiences included in our itineraries, with an emphasis on conservation, local communities and respectful wildlife encounters.

Kenya Safari and Beach Holidays

One of the great advantages of travelling in Kenya is the ability to combine a safari with time on the Indian Ocean coast.

You might begin in Nairobi before travelling to the Maasai Mara, continue north towards Laikipia or Mount Kenya, and then finish with several days beside the Indian Ocean. Alternatively, a shorter safari can be paired with a longer beach stay.

We will recommend the combination based on the amount of time you have and the type of experience you want from your holiday.

Frequently Asked Questions About Kenya Holidays

How long should a Kenya safari holiday be?

We generally recommend at least 7 to 10 days for a first Kenya safari, allowing enough time to experience two or three wildlife regions without spending too much of your holiday travelling. Around 10 to 14 days gives you more flexibility and makes it easier to combine safari with the Kenyan coast.

What is the best time to go on safari in Kenya?

Kenya can be visited throughout the year. July to October is particularly popular for the Maasai Mara and the Great Migration, while January to March is another generally dry period with excellent wildlife viewing. The best dates depend on the areas you want to visit and your priorities.

Can I combine a Kenya safari with a beach holiday?

Yes. Kenya is particularly well suited to safari-and-beach holidays. A private safari in the Maasai Mara, Amboseli or another wildlife area can be followed by time on the Indian Ocean coast, including Diani, Watamu or Lamu.

Do I need an eTA to visit Kenya?

Yes. All visitors to Kenya, including children and infants, must have an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before starting their journey. The application is made online through Kenya’s official immigration service. Requirements can change, so check the latest guidance before travelling.

Is a private Kenya safari better than a group safari?

A private safari offers greater flexibility. You can choose your own pace, spend longer at wildlife sightings and tailor the itinerary around your interests. It is particularly useful for couples, families and photographers who want more control over their time in the parks.

Can I see the Big Five in Kenya?

Yes. Kenya is home to lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros. However, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and we recommend choosing a combination of parks and conservancies that gives you the best possible range of habitats and species.

Can I combine Kenya with Tanzania?

Yes. Kenya and Tanzania work exceptionally well as a combined East African safari. An itinerary can include the Maasai Mara and Serengeti, for example, alongside other destinations such as Amboseli, Ngorongoro or the Tanzanian coast, depending on the time available.

Is Kenya suitable for a family holiday?

Yes. Kenya can work very well for families, particularly when the itinerary is paced carefully. We can select family-friendly lodges, private vehicles and activities that suit the ages and interests of your children.
