Day 1 – Departure

Depart from your local airport for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Day 2 –Arrival & Transfer to Marangu

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), your guide will welcome you and transfer you to Marangu, a journey of around 2 hours. Marangu village sits at the southern base of Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the main entry points for trekkers heading up the mountain, and a gentle first stop for families settling into the trip.

Day 3 – Marangu Route Day Trek → Mandara Hut & Maundi Crater

After breakfast, set out on a day trek along the Marangu Route, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and accessible trails, well suited to older children and first-time trekkers. From Marangu Gate, the trail climbs through rainforest alive with black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and birdlife, reaching Mandara Hut (2,720m) for lunch. If energy allows, continue to Maundi Crater for view

Day 4 – Marangu → Arusha, via Materuni

Drive to Materuni, a Chagga village on Kilimanjaro’s slopes, for a guided walk through banana and coffee plantations to Materuni Waterfall, where those who want to can take a swim in the pool at its base. Afterward, visit a local Chagga coffee farm for a hands-on introduction to coffee-making, from picking the cherries to roasting and grinding them by hand, finishing with a freshly brewed cup and stories of Chagga life. Continue to Arusha for the night at Forest Hill Hotel.

Day 5 – Arusha to Lake Natron

Depart early for Lake Natron, a soda lake set beneath Ol Doinyo Lengai, the “Mountain of God” in Maasai culture. The approach reveals a dramatic landscape of volcanic terrain and mineral-rich waters, and the lake itself is one of the world’s most important breeding sites for lesser flamingos. In the afternoon, a guided walk through Engaresero Gorge leads to the Engaresero Waterfalls, wading through shallow streams to reach the falls and its natural pools. Dinner and overnight at Africa Safari Lake Natron.

Day 6 – Maasai Cultural Visit → Transfer to Serengeti

Begin the day with a visit to a Maasai boma. Hosted by the community, the visit is a chance to hear directly from the Maasai about their traditions, cattle-herding way of life and use of traditional medicine, with time for questions.
Afterward, drive towards Serengeti National Park, watching the landscape shift from Lake Natron’s arid terrain to the Serengeti’s open savanna. Game viewing often begins before you’ve even reached camp, elephants, giraffes, zebras and lions are all possible en route. Arrive at Serengeti Thorn Tree Camp in time for sunset and dinner under the stars.

Day 7 – Full-Day Game Drives in the Serengeti

A full day exploring the Serengeti’s plains, woodlands and river valleys. Depending on the season, you may witness the Great Migration, thousands of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles on the move, trailed by lions, cheetahs and hyenas, but the Serengeti’s resident wildlife makes for excellent viewing at any time of year: the Big Five, giraffes, hippos and a huge variety of birdlife. Return to camp each evening for dinner by the fire.

• Return to Serengeti Thorn Tree Camp each evening, where you can unwind by the campfire, sip on a refreshing drink, and swap stories with fellow travellers. The sounds of the wilderness—distant lion roars, the calls of night birds, and rustling leaves—will lull you to sleep under a starlit African sky. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Thorn Tree Camp.

Days 8 –

Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive → Transfer to Karatu

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and home to over 25,000 animals. The crater floor supports the Big Five, black rhino, lion, elephant and leopard among them, alongside hippo pools and flamingo-lined marshlands. After a picnic lunch inside the crater, ascend the walls in the afternoon and drive to Karatu for dinner and an overnight stay at Crater Rim View Inn.

Day 9 – Lake Eyasi: Hadzabe & Datoga Cultural Visit → Arusha

Depart early for Lake Eyasi, home to the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer communities in East Africa. This visit is arranged with community consent and you’ll join the Hadzabe for a traditional hunting excursion, learning their tracking, bow-and-arrow and foraging skills firsthand.
From there, visit a Datoga community known for their metalworking, watching artisans craft arrowheads, jewellery and tools from recycled metals using techniques passed down for generations.
Continue to the Shanga Workshop, a project empowering disabled artisans to craft handmade glassware and jewellery, a good stop for browsing souvenirs with a story behind them. Return to Arusha for the night.

Day 10 –  Arusha → Zanzibar

Transfer to Arusha airport for your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, you’ll be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel, around 90 minutes away.

Day 11 – Stone Town

Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, blends Arab, European and African architecture and history. A morning walking tour takes in the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum, Dr Livingstone’s House, the Arab Fort, and the site of Sultan Barghash’s harem at Marahubi, along with the market, carved wooden doors and the town’s mosques and cathedrals. In the afternoon, a spice tour visits working spice farms growing cloves, chilli, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla, with the chance to taste and buy directly from the growers, alongside tropical fruits in season.

Days 12–14 – Zanzibar, at Leisure

Three days free to enjoy Zanzibar at your own pace, with the following optional excursions available:

• Jozani Forest, Zanzibar’s only remaining complete indigenous forest and home to the endangered Red Colobus Monkey, alongside Syke’s monkeys, small buck and bushpigs. Best visited early morning or at dusk.

• Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, a small project providing sustainable income for local farmers who previously over-farmed the forest for mangoes, alongside the neighbouring Zala Park conservation and education centre.
