Why Visit Morocco?
Morocco brings together several very different landscapes and cultures within a relatively compact journey.
Marrakech
Explore the atmospheric medina, Jemaa el-Fnaa, Bahia Palace and traditional souks before retreating to a beautiful riad.
Fès
Discover the medieval medina of Fès el-Bali, with its narrow streets, artisan workshops, souks and historic architecture.
The Atlas Mountains
Escape the cities and travel through the High Atlas, with opportunities for walking, village visits and spectacular mountain scenery.
The Sahara
Travel towards Merzouga and experience the dunes of the Sahara. Spend a night at a carefully selected desert camp and watch the sunset over the sands.
Chefchaouen
The famous blue-painted town of Chefchaouen offers a slower pace, beautiful architecture and a relaxed atmosphere in the Rif Mountains.
Essaouira
Finish your journey on the Atlantic coast in Essaouira, a laid-back fishing town known for its whitewashed buildings, seafood and long beach.
Casablanca & Rabat
For travellers interested in Morocco’s modern and political history, Casablanca and Rabat offer a different perspective on the country.
Things to Do in Morocco
Morocco is particularly rewarding when you combine its famous sights with experiences that allow you to engage with local culture.
Some possibilities include:
Explore the souks and medinas of Marrakech and Fès
Stay in a traditional Moroccan riad
Cross the High Atlas Mountains
Visit Aït Ben Haddou
Walk through the Todra or Dades Gorges
Ride across the Sahara by 4×4 or camel
Spend a night beneath the desert stars
Meet local communities in the mountains
Discover Moroccan cuisine and cooking
Explore the blue streets of Chefchaouen
Relax on the Atlantic coast
Visit the historic cities of Rabat and Meknes
Your itinerary can be as active or relaxed as you like.
When Is the Best Time to Visit Morocco?
For most travellers, spring and autumn are excellent times to visit Morocco.
Spring – March to May
Warm temperatures make spring particularly good for exploring Marrakech, Fès and the Atlas Mountains. The Sahara is also generally more comfortable than during the summer.
Summer – June to August
Temperatures can become very high inland and in the desert. The Atlantic coast and higher Atlas Mountains can offer cooler conditions.
Autumn – September to November
Another excellent period for exploring the cities, mountains and desert, with temperatures becoming more comfortable after the summer.
Winter – December to February
Marrakech can offer pleasant daytime temperatures during winter, although nights can be cold. The Atlas Mountains may experience snow, while the Sahara can become particularly cold after dark.
The best dates depend on the regions you want to visit, so ask Alex for advice before deciding when to travel.
How Long Do You Need in Morocco?
For a first visit, 10–14 days works well for combining several of Morocco’s highlights without rushing.
A classic journey might include:
Marrakech → Atlas Mountains → Sahara → Fès → Chefchaouen → Essaouira
With more time, you can explore further into the mountains, spend longer in the desert or add Morocco’s northern and Atlantic coast.
