Passport Validity & Immigration Compliance

For luxury leisure travelers visiting Chile, your full British Citizen passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. However, if your Earth Trip itinerary involves a multi-destination journey crossing into neighboring Argentina or Bolivia, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Holding a full British Citizen passport means you do not require a pre-arranged visa to enter Chile for tourism. Upon clearing border control, you will be issued a complimentary Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo) valid for up to 90 days.

Critical Border Protocol: Keep your Tourist Card safe in your passport, as you must present it to immigration officials upon departure. If your bespoke itinerary includes crossing overland borders through Patagonia or the Andes, ensure your passport is physically stamped on both sides of the border to avoid administrative delays. UK Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) are fully accepted for entry, airside transit, and exit.

Health, Immunization & Local Care

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website or the NHS FitForTravel portal. While Chile maintains world-class medical facilities in Santiago and major urban hubs, rural areas—particularly deep Patagonia and remote island territories—have limited medical resources. Premium travel insurance covering medical evacuation is highly recommended.

• Easter Island Health Advisory: Local authorities have confirmed occasional cases of Dengue fever on Easter Island. Discerning travelers should take proactive steps to avoid mosquito bites by applying high-quality repellent.

• Altitude Wellness: Altitude sickness is a distinct factor when exploring the high-altitude geysers and salt flats of the northern Atacama Desert. Earth Trip intentionally designs our itineraries to climb gradually, allowing your body to acclimatize seamlessly.

• Pharmaceutical Compliance: High-quality pharmacies (farmacias) are widely accessible in cities, though branding conventions differ from the UK; always keep a digital record of the generic (active ingredient) names of your medications. Routine medicines should remain in original, clearly labeled containers accompanied by a doctor’s letter.

The Southern Summer (December to February)

This is the premier window to explore Southern Chile, the Chilean Fjords, Chilean Patagonia, and Antarctica. The weather is at its most stable, hiking trails are pristine, and daylight hours stretch long into the evening. Because this is the peak season for luxury travel to Torres del Paine, early booking (8 to 12 months in advance) is highly recommended.

The Atacama & Easter Island (Year-Round)

The Atacama Desert and Easter Island have evolved into year-round destinations. However, bear in mind that temperatures at high altitudes in the Atacama Desert plummet significantly during the South American winter (July to September), dropping well below freezing at night despite beautiful, sun-drenched days. Easter Island maintains a tropical climate, meaning it remains warm and humid throughout the year with occasional evening showers.

The Shoulder Seasons (September to November & March to May)
