Sakatia Lodge

Island Paradise

Sakatia Lodge is situated on the small island of Nosy Sakatia.

Sakatia Lodge has 11 spacious bungalows in total. Four, large traditional Ravinala bungalows and four, smaller Mango bungalows. One family Madiro bungalow has direct access to the beach and there are two (non self-catering) villas situated right on the beach. The largest villa is perfect for groups of friends or a large family and accommodates up to 7 guests with 3 bedrooms all with en suite bathrooms.
All the comfortable bungalows have a veranda, private bathroom with hot water, fans, and mosquito nets.

Sakatia Lodge’s table d’hôte uses the most delicious produce that Madagascar has to offer in all of the dishes. The menu changes daily and it includes an entrée, main course and a dessert. The bar area is perfect to relax after a long day. The bar is fully licensed and offers a large variety of international drinks in addition to cocktails made with the famous Dzama rum exclusive to Madagascar.

The house reef of Nosy Sakatia is 400 metres from Sakatia Lodge and over a kilometre long. It is not only excellent for scuba diving, but also for snorkelling. Some snorkel spots and beaches are best visited with a pirogue (a Malagasy dug out boat). Or take a kayak out in search for the sea turtles that are right in front of the lodge during high tide. For those who would like to unwind, try a massage at the Zebu Zen centre. Whale watching season is from October – December. Other facilities and services at Sakatia Lodge include the crafts boutique, nanny service and board and card games.

Sakatia Lodge

Sakatia Lodge is a hidden gem tucked away on the enchanted island of Nosy Sakatia, just a short boat ride from the western coast of Nosy Be. Set on a private beach surrounded by lush tropical forests and sacred groves, this lodge offers an intimate and peaceful escape from the busier tourist hubs. Known for its incredible biodiversity and “barefoot luxury” feel, it is a sanctuary for nature lovers, divers, and those seeking a slower pace of life.

The Rooms at Sakatia Lodge

The lodge offers a range of accommodation designed to suit different styles of travel, from Nature Bungalows nestled in the gardens to spacious Ocean View Bungalows that catch the sea breeze. Each unit is built using traditional Malagasy materials like ravenala (traveler’s palm) and local hardwoods, ensuring they blend harmoniously with the environment. The rooms are simple yet elegant, featuring private verandas that provide the perfect vantage point for spotting lemurs in the trees or watching the tide change in the bay.

Dining and Facilities

The heart of the lodge is the open-air restaurant and bar, where guests gather to enjoy a fusion of Malagasy and international cuisine. The menu focuses heavily on fresh, seasonal ingredients, with seafood sourced directly from the local fishermen of Sakatia. For those looking for adventure, the lodge features a renowned PADI dive center, providing access to some of the most pristine and untouched reefs in the archipelago. After a day of exploring, guests can relax in the lounge area or enjoy a quiet sundowner on the beach.

Sustainable Travel

In keeping with the Earth Trip commitment to conservation, Sakatia Lodge operates with a deep respect for the island’s fragile ecosystems. The lodge is actively involved in local reef conservation and works closely with the island’s community to protect the nesting sea turtles that frequent its shores. By utilizing eco-friendly waste management and supporting local education initiatives, the lodge ensures that its presence supports both the people and the wildlife of Nosy Sakatia.

A Note from Aleem – Earth Trip Madagascar Specialist

“Sakatia Lodge is one of my personal favorites because it feels like a secret world. While Nosy Be is wonderful, Sakatia offers a level of tranquility you can’t find anywhere else. What I love most is the ‘house reef’ right in front of the lodge; it’s one of the best places in Madagascar to swim with giant green sea turtles in their natural habitat. It’s the perfect place to truly unplug and reconnect with the ocean.”

Frequently Asked Questions: Nosy Sakatia

How do I get to Sakatia Lodge? The journey is quite simple but feels like a real adventure. After arriving at Nosy Be airport, we arrange a 20-minute transfer to the coast, followed by a 10-minute boat ride across the channel. The lodge’s team will meet you at the beach to welcome you to the island.

Can I see lemurs at the lodge? Yes! Nosy Sakatia is home to several species, including the Black Lemur and the tiny, elusive mouse lemur. They are frequently seen in the trees around the bungalows, especially in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Is there a lot to do on the island if I don’t dive? Absolutely. Beyond diving and snorkeling with turtles, you can explore the island on guided nature walks to see local vanilla and orchid plantations, visit the sacred forests, or go sea kayaking around the quiet bays. It’s an island that rewards those who love to explore on foot.
