The village of Antsanitia has stayed very close to ancestral traditions. The local tribe is called Sakalava. Most of the population are involved in fishing and farming. Cattle breeding is a major activity. The zebu are used for plowing, transport and for food. Moreover, breeding cattle is a highly symbolic aspect of the Sakalava’s tribal culture.
