Take In Madagascar’s Wildlife Highlights
This curated expedition is designed to showcase the very best birdwatching and lemur-spotting opportunities Madagascar has to offer within a seamless timeframe. Accompanied by your own personal driver-guide and a rugged 4×4 vehicle, you have the freedom to explore the island’s unique landscapes and fascinating history at your own pace.
Madagascar’s avifauna is exceptionally rare, featuring nearly 300 bird species—more than half of which are endemics found nowhere else on Earth. On this journey, you will search for elusive specialists like the Pitta-like Ground-roller, the Velvet Asity, and the Benson’s Rock-thrush.
Beyond the birdlife, primate enthusiasts will encounter a diverse cast of lemurs across the island’s most iconic national parks. Experience everything from the haunting morning calls of the vocal Indri and the social groups of Ring-tailed Lemurs to the incredibly rare Golden Bamboo Lemur. This tour is a profound opportunity to discover unique wildlife, stunning landscapes, and diverse cultures, providing a comprehensive look at the biological treasures of the “Eighth Continent.”
A Note from the Curator, Aleem Raheem:
“I designed this 16-day expedition to bridge Madagascar’s three most distinct biodiversity hotspots in a single journey. From the misty rainforests of Andasibe to the ‘Grand Canyon’ of Isalo and the rare spiny forests of the South, this route is vetted to ensure you spend less time on the road and more time in the presence of the island’s most iconic lemurs and endemic birds.
Expert Tip from Aleem: In Ranomafana (Day 4), we start our birding walks at dawn. This is the best time to see the Pitta-like Ground-roller and the Velvet Asity before the forest canopy becomes too bright.
